UPDATE: Multi-vehicle crash cleared on US-220 in Roanoke

UPDATE 7:11 p.m.: Multi-vehicle crash on US-220 is cleared, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

On Thursday evening, the crash caused all south lanes to be closed near the area of Southern Hills Drive. The crash created a two-mile backup during the time, according to VDOT.


UPDATE 6:25 p.m.: WFXR News is learning that backups are now at approximately two miles on US-220 according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The backup is due in part to a multi-vehicle crash in the area of Southern Hills Drive, closing down all south lanes. Crews are diverting traffic onto the Colonial Avenue exit.

All south lanes are closed and drivers can expect delays, according to VDOT. Crews are diverting traffic onto the Colonial Avenue exit.
