The body of Mary Theresa Yeatts was found in Lynchburg on Sunday afternoon. She was located in a wooded area off Cherokee Avenue.
The news was devastating for Christina Childress, who described Yeatts as a second mom. Yeatts dated Childress’ father when Childress was still a young girl.
“I lived with her from sixth grade up until 18 years old and even after that, I still needed her in my life. In my darkest days, she was there for me,” Childress says.
According to Childress, the two were always there for each other over the years. But last summer, they had something of a falling out and hadn’t spoken recently. It’s something Childress says she now regrets.
“Now I see things differently. Watch your words. Watch you what say to people. Because you never know when it’s going to be the last time you talk to them,” says Childress.
Yeatts was originally reported missing on July 17th. Her body was found four days later.
“When I found out she was dead it was devastating to me. It was devastating to me because I wasn’t there for her,” says Childress. She says if she had the opportunity to speak with Yeatts now, she would tell her, “I love you, all your kids love you, your grandkids love you, your mom loves you. We all miss you.”
The cause of Yeatts’ death is still under investigation. If you have any information you are asked to contact the Lynchburg Police Department at 434-455-6174.
