Michael Brown thanks supporters in e-mail sent from jail

An e-mail appearing to be sent from Michael Brown from within the Western Virginia Regional Jail on December 3rd was posted in a Facebook group devoted to supporting him.

Brown begins the letter by saying, “First off I’m speechless, you and the community have been so overwhelmingly supportive and helpful that I’m literally dumbfounded. I cannot find words to express the gratitude I have, when I was in the woods cold and alone and suffering.”

Brown goes on to say that he thought the rest of his life would be filled with suffering, until he was able to access WiFi and see that there were people who were supporting him.

“It’s special beyond my comprehension. And will be a part of who I am for the rest of my life. What you all have done for me has had HUGE impacts on every part of me,” says Brown in the message.

WFXR spoke with Stephanie Manus, the woman who created the Facebook group in support of Brown.

“The amount of emotion coming from this young man, it was heartbreaking,” says Manus. “Because he said this is more support and more love than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. That was validating,” she says.

WFXR reached out to Brown to confirm the authenticity of the letter, but have not yet heard back.

The Facebook support group for Brown now has more than 1,800 members.

Brown has a court appearance scheduled for March 19, 2020.
