Martinsville man wanted on more than a dozen felony charges

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding a man wanted on several felony charges.

On June 29, 2019, at approximately 11:34 am, the Martinsville-Henry County Emergency 911 Center got a call about a car being shot into at 5200 Chatham Rd., Martinsville, Virginia. 

Deputies and investigators from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.  Through the course of the investigation, it was discovered that John Christopher Simmons, 34, of 182 Lakewood Park Dr., Martinsville, Virginia fired multiple gunshots into an occupied vehicle following a domestic argument.  No one was injured in the incident.

           Through the course of the investigation deputies located the car that driven by Simmons on Lakewood Park Dr. Deputies said Simmons ran into the woods when he saw them.

Deputies searched his car and reportedly found four handguns, 3.5 ounces of suspected cocaine, 2.85 ounces of suspected heroin, 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine and $7000.00 in U.S. Currency. 

They said the approximate street value of the seized narcotics is in excess of $18,000.00.  The suspected narcotics will be submitted to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for analysis.

John Christopher Simmons is currently wanted on 13 felony and 1 misdemeanor warrants.

·       Shooting into an occupied vehicle, 10 counts.

·       Possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon.

·       Felony destruction of property.

·       Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

·       Reckless handling of a firearm (misdemeanor).

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the assistance of the public in locating John Christopher Simmons.  

Anyone having information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of John Christopher Simmons is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).  The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $2500.00 for information related to crime.  The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
