Mandatory evacuations issued for popular NC resort ahead of Hurricane Dorian

EMERALD ISLE, NC (WFXR) – A popular North Carolina vacation destination is clearing out residents and locals ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Dorian.

On Monday, a voluntary evacuation was issued for Emerald Isle. Tuesday afternoon, orders were given making evacuation mandatory starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Emerald Isle’s website states the following:

HIGH IMPORTANCE – Residents, businesses, and guests should take action now to protect their property and prevent the unnecessary loss of life. Please leave early, especially those traveling with boats, RV’s and/or trailers. Citizens and visitors should plan to be in a safe location and sheltered by 10:00 AM on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.
