BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A man was arrested Tuesday morning for disrupting law enforcement’s ability to respond to a domestic dispute.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call for a domestic situation close to 7 a.m. when the call was disconnected.
Authorities responded to Big Springs Road in Fincastle, where they encountered 55-year-old John A. McCarty Sr.
McCarty came out of the house with a gun and ordered Deputies to leave his property.
Deputies on scene called for backup. McCarty exited the home and hid behind a parked car for cover while he grabbed a crossbow out of the car to take back inside with him.
McCarty could be seen inside the home with his crossbow and gun through the window making threats to Deputies. He also called the dispatch center demanding Deputies to leave the property.
Around 9:15 a.m., McCarty was taken into custody without further issues.
Authorities seized a 22 caliber air rifle and crossbow from the property.
McCarty is charged for brandishing a firearm and willfully or maliciously prevent or obstructing one from summoning law enforcement.
