LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Police in Lynchburg are on the lookout for a dog who serves as companion for a girl with cystic fibrosis.

In a post to Facebook, the Lynchburg Police said the dog was “the companion animal for an Amherst girl living with Cystic Fibrosis” and goes by the name of Dixie.

The companion animal reportedly got out of a fence near the Amherst Plantation Thursday morning.

Police are offering a $500 reward for Dixie’s return.
