ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard, and Roanoke native Troy Daniels Dream Big Foundation knows a thing or two about giving.
“The Dream Big Foundation and what Troy does is that he wants to give back to the community and encourage those children to dream big and whenever you dream big and work hard and you’re passionate about what you do dreams actually do come true,” says event facilitator Sauntasha Austin.
Daniels Dream Big Foundation held it’s first ever “Dream Big Christmas” event Saturday morning. Troy and his foundation, along with his local church, Temple Of The Way treated 100 kids from local schools to a shopping spree.
“This is the Christmas holiday and we are to give and when we think about the Christmas season and what Christ has done he gave his life and so giving back to the community to those in need just as Christ has done that’s what it’s all about,” explains Austin.
The William Fleming high school basketball star may have been out of town due to the NBA season. But it’s the work he’s doing on the court that enables him to give.
“Whenever you have who comes from this area and they’re imparted in this area and they go away they didn’t forget and that’s a good thing for members of the Roanoke community to know that he didn’t forget us and he is turning around giving back to those who also imparted into him,” states Austin.
With Santa taking photos and carts filled with toys, clothes, and food. For Daniels and his foundation, dreaming big was the reason for the season in Roanoke.
