Wonder bear project delivers teddy bears to children in need

Local News

Last month, we told you about a little five year old boy who was collecting teddy bears for children in our area.

Tonight, he was able to deliver some of those bears and shows us just how this small boy can make a big impact on the community.

With a bear in his hand, Alex was ready to deliver his teddy bears to the Ronald McDonald House tonight.

“I’m happy,” said Alex.

5 year old Alex with the help of the local community collected teddy bears because he believes every child should have a bear for Christmas.

“For a child to think of other children, that’s rare this day and age, especially around Christmas. So we are really blessed and honored that Alex thought of the Ronald McDonald House,” said Anna Semonco, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald  House.

After a tour, leaders at the Ronald McDonald House also had a special surprise for Alex by giving him the Awesomeness Award and

“A goodie bag,” said Alex.

The Ronald McDonald House plans to carry out Alex’s wish.

“Give them to kids,” said Alex.

“We plan to keep some here and just as the families come in, a little something cheerful we can put in their welcome bags for them,” said Anna Semonco, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald  House.

Making sure kids in our area get the comfort and company of a bear, just like Alex says his teddy bear gives him.

Alex has collected close to one thousand bears.

He has also handed them out to Carilion Children’s Hospital.
