(WRIC) — Capitol Police say there is a ‘public safety incident’ inside the amphitheater area of the Virginia War Memorial, shutting down the Robert E. Lee Bridge.

Richmond Police first received a call of a woman threatening to harm herself on the Lee Bridge. By the time officers arrived at the bridge, the woman had walked to the memorial.

Authorities say the woman is armed.

A heavy police presence remains on the scene, including the SWAT team.

Police officers have blocked off the area, and are diverting traffic onto Belvidere and 2nd streets.

Drivers should expect traffic delays in the area.
