William Byrd High School JROTC program facing closure due to lack of participants

Local News

The JRPTC program at William Byrd High School, is set to close after this 2018-2019 year due to the lack of participation.

The High School has had a JROTC program supported by the Air Force since 2006.

According to the Program Director, one of the guidelines is that the program should have at least 100 cadets to keep the program going.

The students at Byrd have been trying to recruit, however, they are only at 65  students.

Program leaders are working to keep the program open until the current cadets finish out their high school JROTC career.

Cadets have been working to keep the program up and running. They have started a petition that now has over 1,200 signatures.
