The Western Virginia Regional Jail (WVRJ) has added a new full-body security scanning system to the facility.
Officials say the new security scanner has been purchased in an effort to further prevent contraband from entering its secure facility.
The body scanner is used to detect items such as weapons, cellular telephones, drugs, etc., officials say.
The new technology operates using x-ray technology that provides a non-intrusive scan of an inmate’s entire person, including body cavities, without disrobing.
Law officials have made it a requirement for every inmate to be scanned upon admission to the WVRJ.
