VSP: Teen dead, man injured after Monday’s Bedford County collision

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police shared the identities of the Pittsylvania County teenager who died and the Bedford County man who was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash in Bedford County early Monday morning.

According to police, the crash took place at approximately 12:24 a.m. on Monday, July 19 along Route 24, less than a mile west of Orrix Creek Road/Route 713.

A 2003 Honda Element was heading east on Route 24. However, as it was entering a curve, the Honda crossed the centerline and hit a westbound 2004 Chevrolet Suburban head-on.

Virginia State Police announced on Friday, July 23 that the Honda’s driver — 19-year-old Jacob E. Doss of Hurt — was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet — identified by authorities as 53-year-old John H. Coleman of Huddleston — was wearing a seatbelt and was brought to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

This crash is reportedly still under investigation.
