FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the person who set fire to Mountain Valley Pipeline construction equipment Thursday morning.
The fires destroyed two pieces of heavy machinery on private property in the 800 block of Leaning Oak Road. Investigators believe the fires were set around 5:00 a.m. Aug. 31, and that the person responsible used homemade incendiary devices. Evidence tied to those devices will be examined at the FBI Laboratory, according to VSP.
HAZMAT cleaned up the scene to mitigate environmental damage caused by the fire, which was set near a stream.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also assisting in the investigation.
