CAMPBELL CONTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police says it is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of Red House Rd. and New Chapel Rd. on Feb. 23rd.
At 2:37 p.m. on Thursday, 78-year-old driver of a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer, James G. Booth of Rustburg, failed to yield and pulled into the path of a 1992 Oldsmobile, killing the driver, 40-year-old Travis C. Smith of Rustburg. Booth had two passengers in his vehicle at the time. Booth and one of his passengers were wearing their seatbelts, while one was not.
All three riders in the Mercury were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Smith, who passed away at the scene, was not wearing a seatbelt.
VSP is investigating the crash. WFXR News will update this story as details are released.
