FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police announced Thursday that one of the three people injured in a crash between a motorcycle and an SUV in Franklin County last week has died from his injuries.
According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Friday, June 18 along Snow Creek Road/Route 890, just east of Shady Grove Road/Route 882.
Authorities say a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser was heading west on Snow Creek Road, crossed the centerline, and hit an eastbound 2018 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The impact of the crash then caused the Toyota to run off the road and strike a tree.
In addition, the motorcyclist and the passenger — identified as 30-year-old Richard L. Boyce, Jr. and 29-year-old Chastedy R. Boyce, both from Bassett — were reportedly thrown from the motorcycle and airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Virginia State Police say Richard died from his injuries on Tuesday, June 22.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota — 52-year-old Lori D. Oyler of Martinsville — was brought to Roanoke Memorial Hospital in an ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.
The two people on the motorcycle were reportedly wearing helmets and Oyler was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
According to officials, charges are currently pending in connection with this crash, which is still under investigation.
