ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke Police are investigating a high-speed chase involving a pickup spanning from Roanoke City to Botetourt County that occurred on Monday, Sept. 18.

Around 10:37 p.m., a trooper allegedly observed a pickup truck, driven by 34-year-old Matthew Welch on Milrose Ave. and 20th Street driving east at around 75 mph in a 35-mph zone. Police claim Welch refused to stop and sped off after the trooper activated his emergency lights, initiating the chase.

The pursuit continued onto Williamson Rd. and eventually into Botetourt County. Troopers say the pursuit finally ended when they used an intervention technique, also known as a ‘PIT maneuver,’ causing the Welch’s truck to roll over on route 220.

Welch has been taken into custody and is facing charges of alluding police, speeding, and reckless driving.
