Virginia State Police investigate fatal crash in Pittsylvania County

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday night.

The occurred on Route 460, just east of Route 674 in Pittsylvania County at 9:47 p.m.

State police say a 2009 Dodge Journey was traveling west on Route 40 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The driver, Cory Allen Coffey, 26, of Gretna, over-corrected and crossed the center line. The vehicle then ran off the left side of the road and struck several trees.

Coffey was not wearing his seatbelt and was transported to the hospital in Gretna where he later died.

The crash remains under investigation.
