Ricky Gray was put to death Wednesday night by lethal injection at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarrat.
The U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay request just hours before.
Gray was pronounced dead at 9:42 pm.
He was convicted of killing a Richmond couple and their two young daughters during a home invasion back in 2006.
His attorney, Elizabeth Peiffer, says Gray was remorseful and should not be defined by his crime.
She said, “His death may provide a measure of retribution to some. But, it will take from the world a man trying hard to make amends and to make life better for others.”
Gray and his nephew, Ray Dandridge, would go on to kill three other people just days later.
That made for seven murders in six days.
