RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Education Association will host a community forum to address the growing issue of trauma in schools.

“Trauma, Adversity, and the Resiliency of Our Brains” will be held Thursday at Hermitage High School in Richmond from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The forum will feature Dr. Lori Desautels, a trauma expert and assistant professor at Butler University.

The event is co-sponsored by the Virginia Education Association and Henrico County Schools’ Foundational Learning and Community & Family Engagement Team.

Educators have been grappling with the growing impact in schools and communities of children who’ve endured traumatic life experiences.

The forum will focus on understanding how trauma affects developing minds and on equipping families and educators with strategies to support resilience in young people.
