Virginia at Work: Training for innovation

Local News

With a constantly changing marketplace, corporate leaders realize they need to stay ahead of the curve.

It’s about innovation, strategy and leadership. They are all skills that involve constant training to stay on top of your game. Lynda McNutt Foster, the CEO of Cortex Leadership Consulting and Raphael Louis Viton, the co-author of Free the Idea Monkey … to focus on what matters most! are two executive consultants who train leaders to keep ahead of the game.

Foster says, “The changes in the marketplace are going to be complex and they are going to be consistent. So learning how to think at a higher level allows you to face those changes in a way that you can gather your team together, get them to think more effectively, and then also implement the ideas and the vision they come up with”

When corporate leaders and CEOs constantly train and keep their minds open to what’s to come, Viton says, “You see them adopt lifestyle, corporate lifestyle changes. See them open the aperture of their mind that really lets go of some of the old success formulas. It’s really more about seeing people let go of the things they have relied on for so long to be the answer, and open themselves up, re-orient themselves to all the possibilities they actually have available to them.”

“I think leaders need to think strategically. I think they need to act intentionally. And I think they need to speak effectively. Those three skills, and they are skills. Most leadership things are not things you are born with, it’s not an innate talent. Any behavioral type is able to build the skills to be a good leader if they are motivated and want to take on that responsibility. It’s about serving leadership these days, serving your team,” adds Foster.

The two say it’s important for the leaders to take the lead on innovation training, when the culture changes at the top, it will cascade down to the rest of the organization. To read more on the research and work of both Foster and Viton, click here.
