Vinton house fire leaves family without a home

One dog is dead and three cats are missing after a house fire in Vinton this morning.

The Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire in the 2100 block of Horn Circle at around 10:40 AM , on Thursday.

Officials say two adults lived in the home, one of the adults was home at the time of the fire and made it out with no injuries.

When crews arrived they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the front window of a spilt level home with vinyl siding, officials said. 

The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes by units from Vinton, Mount Pleasant, Clearbrook, and North County. 

The American Red Cross will be helping assist the family. 

This investigation is still ongoing.
