(WFXR) — State and local officials announced several road projects and lane closures around southwest Virginia going into place at the start of the work week.

According to the City of Danville, from the Danville Expressway to Airport Drive, eastbound traffic on South Boston Road will remain as one lane on Monday, May 18 through Wednesday, May 20.

Officials say milling and paving will resume — weather permitting — and recommend motorists either add a little extra buffer time to their commute or consider alternate routes.

Meanwhile, starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, Route 620 (Tory Creek Road) in Floyd County will be closed 0.4 miles from Shelor Road and 0.3 miles from Danville Pike for pipe replacement, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22, officials say.

I-81 in Roanoke County will have overnight closures beginning Monday for paving and milling operations. Right and left lane closures will be in place along northbound lanes in Roanoke County from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. at the exit 146 ramp. Left lane closures will be in place from exit 134 to 136 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

In addition, VDOT says the Route 636 bridge replacement over Roanoke River at Seneca Hollow is scheduled to start Monday, with the road set to close in mid-June and a detour going in place with restricted access to Route 460 at Seneca Hollow.

In Carroll County, VDOT says right and left lane closures will be in place Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. along I-77 for paving and maintenance. The closures will take place from mile marker 14 to mile marker 19, weather permitting. Drivers should expect delays.

Meanwhile, I-81 in Pulaski County will have left and right lane closures in place from mile marker 87 to mile marker 89 between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge deck repairs. Drivers should watch for signs and expect potential delays.
