VDOT: Detours will continue on Route 220 for another two weeks

Local News

Traffic in Botetourt County can expect continued detours for another 10 to 14 days, beginning April 1 on Route 220 north of Fincastle

Crews continue replacing a 110-foot section of damaged pipe near the intersection of Route 679, where a fiery tanker truck crash happened back in February.

Southbound traffic will take Mary Alice Road to West Wind road out to Old Fincastle Road to get back onto Route 220.

Tractor-trailer drivers and other large-sized vehicles are asked to avoid southbound Route 220, and should instead take Interstates 81 or 64.

Northbound traffic will still use a single lane on Route 220, with a 35 mile per hour speed limit.

Once construction is complete, and the detour is removed, VDOT estimates another 4 to 6 weeks before northbound lanes are fully repaired and all four lanes reopen to traffic.
