(WFXR) — When it comes to holding trick-or-treating events amid the coronavirus pandemic, the malls in southwest and central Virginia are divided on whether such activities are safe for community members.

Just like in 2020, the Valley View Mall in Roanoke announced on Facebook that it will not be hosting a trick-or-treating event for Halloween.

“We encourage our littlest shoppers to trick-or-treat safely in their own neighborhoods,” Valley View Mall wrote on social media on Monday, Oct. 25.

The Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke County made a similar announcement on Monday, saying the mall will not host any trick-or-treating this Halloween.

However, both the River Ridge Mall in Lynchburg and Uptown Christiansburg planned kid-friendly events for Halloween weekend.

The River Ridge Mall will be holding a spook-tacular “Boo Bash” from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. You can collect candy from various retailers, meet special characters, hop around in the bounce house, make Halloween arts and crafts with Blue Mountain Barn, or enjoy a stream of “Hocus Pocus” in the Center Court.

Meanwhile, Uptown Christiansburg will kick off trick-or-treating at the mall at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. The event will continue while supplies last.

There are also dozens of Halloween events going on around southwest and central Virginia over the next week. You can check out a list of those events by clicking here.
