The U.V.A. Cavaliers shut out the Gamecocks of South Carolina in Saturday’s Belk Bowl, claiming their first bowl victory in more than a decade. Virginia also redeeming itself from last year’s Military Bowl, which it lost 49-7 against Navy.
U.V.A.’s Bryce Perkins connects with Olamide Zaccheus for the game’s first points. A nine-yard touchdown run from U.V.A.’s Jordan Ellis makes the score 14-0 Cavaliers, which would remain unchanged until seven minutes into the third quarter. Perkins would throw Zaccheus two more touchdown passes in the second half.
South Carolina’s Jack Bentley goes 17/40 and 2 interceptions, receiving little help from a run offense that produces only 43 yards.
