PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police shared the name of the woman who was found dead inside a Pittsylvania County house last week.
According to Virginia State Police, shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a residence in the 8600 block of Mount Cross Road.
The caller stated that a woman had been killed inside the residence, and dispatchers could reportedly hear gunshots being fired in the background of the call.
When Pittsylvania County deputies arrived at the scene, they found an armed man in the house. Police say he refused to drop his firearm, shots were fired, and he was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
As soon as deputies were able to safely enter the house, officials say they found a dead woman inside. However, two juvenile females and a man — who were initially inside the residence — were able to safely escape to a neighbor’s house before the deputies arrived, according to authorities.
A neighbor expressed shock following the incident, especially in his quiet, suburban neighborhood.
On Wednesday, June 17, Virginia State Police identified the homicide victim as 39-year-old Xochic Ochoa of Pittsylvania County.
However, police say the man who was shot has not been charged at this time and did not release information on his condition.
Virginia State Police says investigators will turn over their findings to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office once the investigation into both the homicide and the officer-involved shooting is complete.
