UPDATE (4/2/18) – The Roanoke Police Department is looking for information about a homicide.
Markel Girty was found dead inside a car that had crashed on February 9th. Girty had been shot, which caused the crash.

UPDATE (Feb. 10, 4:20 p.m.) Police have identified the victim who died from the gunshot wound as Markell Trevon Girty, 23, of Roanoke.
The investigation revealed Girty had been shot in the 700 block of 29th Street NW and drove his vehicle away from the area, according to police.
Police also concluded that because of his gunshot wound, Girty then got into the car accident in the intersection of 24th Street NW and Salem Turnpike NW.
Police say the female injured in the other car was not related to the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.

UPDATE (10:41 p.m.) The man who was found with a gunshot wound was pronounced dead at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital this afternoon at 3:43 pm, according to police.
Police say they know his identity but will not release it until family is appropriately notified.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Medical Examiners Office. No arrests have been made in this incident.

Police are investigating after a man was found with a gunshot wound.
They were first called to the area of 24th Street NW and Salem Turnpike for a car crash.
When they arrived, they discovered one of the accident victims also had a gunshot wound.
The man was taken to the hospital for treatment. A woman from a second vehicle was also taken to the hospital.
The crash is not believed to be connected to the gunshot injury at this time.

On February 9, 2018 at 2:48 pm, Roanoke Police were dispatched to the area of 24 th Street N.W. at Salem Turnpike regarding a motor vehicle accident. On officer’s arrival, they located a two-vehicle accident. Roanoke Fire and EMS responded to the scene, began treatment of the occupants of the vehicles and during the treatment of a male occupant, they located an injury consistent with a gunshot wound. The male was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. A female from the second vehicle was transported with non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle crash is not believed to be connected to the gunshot injury at this time. Detectives and the Forensics Services Unit are on scene and continuing the investigation.
