Update: Ferrum College has issued an all clear for students

UPDATE 3:11 P.M. : The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office told WFXR News they are investigating the incident that led to a local college going on lock down.

Deputies said around 10:00 Thursday morning they were called to the 4000 block of Prillaman Switch Road in Franklin County after two juveniles were reporting there was a man with a gun and a body.

The sheriff’s office said the report was unfounded.

This is an ongoing investigation, and it is not sure if the juveniles will face charges or not.

According to the sheriff’s office, they did not and do not recommend lockdown. That is a decision made by the schools.


UPDATE 11:27AM : Ferrum College has issued an all clear for students. They most recently tweeted this from their official school account: 

“Ferrum Alert: Campus authorities have issued an ALL CLEAR notice. You may resume normal activities.”

In another tweet they have posted: “Many thanks to our Ferrum College campus community for your cooperation and to those who expressed concern during this recent alert. Authorities have issued an all clear. We are resuming normal activities and class schedules.”


According to the Ferrum College Twitter account, Ferrum College is warning their students to stay inside classrooms or take cover. 

They have tweeted saying: “Ferrum Alert:Sheriff’s office reports shots fired on Prillaman Switch Road near College. Suspect white male, dark beard, dark hair,”

They have also tweeted: “Ferrum Alert: An ALL CAMPUS ALERT is in effect. Shelter in place and wait for further instructions from authorities. Remain in classrooms,”
