UPDATE: A tractor trailer driver is facing charges after a crash on Interstate 81.
It happened Wednesday morning at 3:12 at the Troutville Rest Area entrance ramp in Botetourt County.
A National Carriers tractor trailer was going south on I-81 when it ran off the right side of the road, hitting four other tractor trailers that were parked on the exit ramp going into the rest area.
The driver, Alexander Stevens from Arizona, fell asleep at the wheel before his truck ran off the road. He was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
He has been charged with reckless driving.
The drivers of the other four trucks were parked on the rest area ramp were also charged for parking on the interstate.
The right travel lane will stay closed until the clean-up is finished.

BOTETOURT, Va. – Virginia State Police is investigating a tractor trailer crash which occurred at 3:12 a.m. this morning (Wed) on Interstate 81at the Troutville Rest Area entrance ramp in Botetourt County.
A National Carriers tractor trailer was traveling south on Interstate 81 when the truck ran off the right side of the roadway striking four other tractor trailers which were parked on the exit ramp leading into the southbound rest area.
The driver of the National Carriers tractor trailer, Alexander C. Stevens, 31, of Arizona fell asleep while driving, when the truck ran off the roadway hitting the other tractor trailers. Mr. Stevens was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening in injuries.
Mr. Stevens has been charged with Reckless Driving.
The drivers of the other four tractor trailers which were parked on the rest area exit ramp were also charged in the crash with parking on the Interstate.
The right travel lane was closed at 3:12 and will remain closed until the clean-up is completed.
The crash remains under investigation.
I-81 southbound was down to one lane after the driver of a tractor trailer fell asleep at the wheel, striking four others.
The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday near mile marker 158.
Virginia State Police say the driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Police say VDOT will be on the scene until noon clearing the trucks, as well as a cargo of hotdogs that spilled onto the interstate.
