The TSA is reminding travelers that they need to make sure they are packing any firearms properly before coming to the airport.
According to the agency, nearly 4,000 firearms were found in carry-on bags last year. 84% of the guns found in 2017 were also loaded.
The TSA says that travelers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to criminal charges. It also does not matter if a traveler has a concealed weapon permit, firearms are not permitted to be carried onto an airplane.
A report shows that Washington Dulles International Airport had the most guns found in Virginia last year with 19. Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport found 3 guns in carry-on bags and Lynchburg Regional reported 2.
