UPDATE 4/2 at 12:24 P.M. (WFXR) — After strong winds left more than 85,000 Appalachian Power (AEP) customers without service on Saturday, AEP says crews are working to remove trees and make repairs.
The power company reports that it has restored power for more than half of its customers. However, 13,300 customers still remain without power in Virginia.
AEP has several crews working to get power on and expects service to be restored by Sunday night in the following areas:
- Bland County
- Floyd County
- Giles County
- Patrick County
- Russell County
- Tazewell County
- Wythe County
For areas that have sustained heavy damage, power is expected to be restored by Monday night.

UPDATE at 6:41 P.M. (WFXR) — AEP has reported that nearly 31,400 customers are without power after strong winds, impacted the region on April 1st.
Several crews are working to restore power for customers, however, accurate restoration times are not available.
AEP says it has over 1,600 workers removing trees and accessing damages.

UPDATE 6:10 P.M. (WFXR) –The Appalachian Power outage map reports that thousands of its customers remain without power across Virginia, as winds continue to blow across the region.
Outages have spread across several areas including Galax, Pulaski, Rocky Mount, Montgomery County, Lynchburg, Wytheville, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Rurul Retreat, Martinsville, and Roanoke.

UPDATE 5:06 P.M. (WFXR) — In a Facebook post, AEP stated crews are working to restore power as safely and quickly as possible, however, forecast wind gusts and speeds above 30 mph can delay restorations. At this time, it is unknown when power may be fully restored.
The power company reminds the community that if they see a downed power line to stay away, keep others away, and call 911 immediately.

UPDATE 3:43 P.M. (WFXR) — As strong winds continue across the region, the Appalachian Power outage map reports over 3,000 customers have lost power in the Roanoke area.
There are over 100 power outage cases across the region including Galax, Pulaski, Rocky Mount, Montgomery County, Lynchburg, Wytheville, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Martinsville, and surrounding areas.

UPDATE 12:56 P.M. (WFXR) — According to the Appalachian Power outage map, power has been restored for most of the affected customers.
More than 1,000 customers still remain without power in Franklin County.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Wind advisories went into effect Friday night, with wind gusts leaving many residents throughout Virginia without power.
According to the Appalachian Power outage map, nearly 1,500 customers have lost power in the Lynchburg, Christiansburg, Cave Springs, and Rocky Mount areas.
At this time, it is unknown when power may be restored. The Appalachian Power outage map reports crews are “assessing conditions.”
