Thanksgiving should be a holiday to celebrate and enjoy with family and friends, but too often it turns into a stress bomb for those involved in putting the special meal together and making it a success. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Two weeks out! What can you do now to take the stress out of holiday preps and guarantee a fantastic meal and celebration?

The first order of business is to embrace the process. It is going to happen, so you should try to enjoy it. Break it down into individual, easy-to-accomplish tasks.

Here is what to do two weeks out:

  • Take an inventory of kitchen tools to make sure you have what you need to cook what is on your menu.
  • Buy non-perishable items like potatoes, cake and muffin mixes, flour, drinks, and canned goods. There is a better selection now, and you will not have to fight the crowds in the grocery stores near the holiday.
  • Clear out freezer space. You are going to need space if you buy a frozen turkey, and for prebaked or premade pie crusts and other dishes. Plus, you could need the space for leftovers.

Doing these things ahead of time can save you worry and effort on Thanksgiving. The better prepared to execute a plan on the big day, the better your chances of making everyone happy, and of you enjoying the day and becoming a Holiday Hero!
