Suspect, victim hospitalized after assault, crash

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WFXR) — A suspect and victim are hospitalized, following an assault and crash in Rocky Mount.

According to Rocky Mount Police, Steven Robert Banks, 27, of Dry Fork, assaulted the victim while at her place of employment.

Following the assault, Banks and the victim traveled south from Rocky Mount to Business U.S. 220. At Route 619 (Sontag Road), Banks exited the vehicle. At this time, the victim moved into the drive’rs seat and attempted to drive off. Police said Banks got back into the vehicle and caused the vehicle to crash.

After the crash, Banks ran off into a nearby wooded area as law enforcement pursued him.

Rocky Mount Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the pursuit.

Banks will face a domestic assault charge.

Both the suspect and victim are being treated at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
