WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — After being hospitalized for a gunshot wound sustained in an altercation with a Wythe County deputy Nov. 9, carjacking suspect William Cody Grimes was jailed on Nov. 19.
According to the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy discovered the stolen vehicle and Grimes — who allegedly stole the vehicle — just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. Authorities say Grimes and the deputy struggled over the deputy’s firearm before the deputy shot Grimes.
Grimes is held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail. According to the jail, Grimes faces charges of grand theft auto, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
