UPDATE: Standoff underway in northwest Roanoke with armed man, police say

UPDATE 10:18 p.m.: WFXR spoke to neighbors who say the barricaded man is a caring man who cares about the neighborhood. They say they are surprised at the incident.

UPDATE 7:32 p.m.: Roanoke Police have given the barricaded man a timed warning before they say they will kick down the door.

The officers appeared to have a battering ram, which was pulled away for unknown reasons.

UPDATE 6:51 p.m.: According to police, they are communicating with the barricaded man and have asked him to open the front door.

UPDATE 5:10 p.m.: Tactical units are still on the scene of the standoff outside a northwest Roanoke residence where police have confirmed to WFXR News the man barricaded inside is armed with two guns, including an AR-15 style rifle.

Police say the man is located by the front door of the residence along Edinburgh Drive NW and have put up additional crime scene tape around a wider area. According to authorites, tactical teams are still communicating with the man barricaded inside.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Police are at the scene of a standoff outside a Roanoke residence with a man barricaded inside Sunday afternoon.

According to a representative for the Roanoke Police Department, officers are attempting to serve felony warrants on a man. However, police say this man is barricaded inside the residence and is believed to be armed.

WFXR News is on the scene at Durham Street NW and Grandview Avenue NW working to learn more about the situation.
