“A very emotional day at Tunstall Middle School this morning, lot of close friendships were there and you could feel it in the school,” said Dr. Mark Jones, Pittsylvania County Superintendent.

it’s a heartbreaking day for the 7th graders of Tunstall Middle School.

13 year old Christopher Bowden passed away on Thursday night.

Virginia State Police say Bowden was riding in a four wheeler down Cascade Mill Road along a private gravel driveway and struck a tree.

According to investigators, Bowden wasn’t wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

Superintendent Jones says extra counselors were on hand to help grieving students.

“Want to be sure that we put guidance counselors and school psychologists in place to assist students who may have questions,” said Dr. Mark Jones, Pittsylvania County Superintendent.

He says the 7th grade was broken down into smaller groups so kids could talk about their feelings.

“They also did some group activities with them. They used the bulletin paper  to write little comments, little thoughts that they had regarding a student,” said Dr. Mark Jones, Pittsylvania County Superintendent.
