‘Star Wars’ fans pack theaters for ‘Rogue One’ debut

Local News

Crowds are packing movie theaters as the latest “Star Wars” film arrives on the big screen.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is officially released on Friday, but some people caught the movie Thursday night in early screenings.

At Roanoke’s Grandin Theatre, several people were in costume, dressed as their favorite characters. Some fans showed off their lightsabers as well.

Fans we spoke with said they could not miss the opportunity to be among the first to see the film.

“My dad said he used to watch ‘Star Wars’ when he was a little boy,” said Michael, a young fan.

“It’s ‘Star Wars’ – the energy, the followers are always very fun, very festive,” said Melissa Witt, who was seeing the film with fellow members of the Geek Mob, a local organization. “It’s very energetic.”
