(WFXR) — Sheriff’s offices and police departments around southwest Virginia are sharing videos from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to promote a simple message for motorists: “Take your life seriously. Wear a seatbelt.”
However, the law enforcement agencies listed below are not sharing the exact same video. In fact, each of these videos is customized to fit a certain locality, as well as the state troopers, deputies, and police officers who serve that locality.
The videos serve as a part of Virginia’s ‘Local Heroes’ strategy to save lives. According to the ‘Toward Zero Deaths Virginia’ organization, more than 52 percent of the people who died on Virginia’s roads in 2019 weren’t wearing a seat belt.
The 2020 initiative involved officers from the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Bedford Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Danville Police Department, Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, and Virginia State Police’s Area 20, 24, 26, 41 and 43 Offices.
