CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Wednesday afternoon wreck in Charlotte County is under investigation after state troopers found the driver dead and a very young passenger hurt.
According to Virginia State Police, they responded to the single-vehicle crash at approximately 2:22 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31 on Route 727, just south of Midway Road.
Authorities say a 2002 Ford Escape was heading south on Route 727, ran off the right side of the road, and hit a tree.
The driver — identified by officials as 66-year-old Vivian E. McCargo of Drakes Branch — was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the wreck.
In addition, police tell WFXR News that a one-year-old boy — who was in a child safety seat — was brought to the hospital for minor injuries.
Virginia State Police say that a medical condition is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
