HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A woman is dead and a man is fighting for his life at the hospital after authorities responded to a report of a shootout between the couple in Henry County Saturday night.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 from a man saying he and his girlfriend had shot each other at 89 Meadow Green Drive in Bassett.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they say they found the caller — identified as 32-year-old Tyson Jermall Hairston of Collinsville — with multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and torso. He was airlifted to a Roanoke hospital to be treated for these life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, authorities also found 32-year-old Tambria Taylor — who lived at the same address where the shooting took place — inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials announced on Sunday, June 12 that Taylor’s body would be brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia, where an autopsy will be performed.

The sheriff’s office says the preliminary findings of the investigation indicate that Hairston and Taylor — both of whom were armed with handguns — got into an argument and fired their guns, hitting each other multiple times.

As of Sunday morning, authorities are still investigating Saturday night’s shooting as a homicide.
