DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — After a month of searching, police arrested and charged another man with second-degree-murder Thursday afternoon in connection with the death of Jaylan Fitzgerald, who was found shot along Cabell Street in Danville in February.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 3, the Danville Police Department says a citizen called 911 to report a man — later identified as 21-year-old Fitzgerald of Pittsylvania County — lying in the 600 block of Cabell Street with a gunshot wound. Fitzgerald later died at the scene.

According to the department, investigators obtained charges against 19-year-old Avion Burton on Feb. 4, but he has remained at large since that time.

In the meantime, police say they arrested 20-year-old Earlquan Williams at his Danville home without incident on Feb. 10, charging him with second-degree murder in connection with Fitzgerald’s death.

Then, on Thursday, March 4, investigators reportedly tracked Burton to a Danville house and arrested him without incident on the outstanding warrant for second-degree murder.

Burton is being held in the Danville City jail without bond, officials say.
