VSP: One dead after Tuesday morning crash along US-220 North in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — One person is dead after an early morning crash that shut down U.S. Route 220 North in Henry County for several hours on Tuesday.

Virginia State Police told WFXR News that the single-vehicle, single-occupant crash was reported at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

According to a state trooper, the vehicle ran off the road, hit an embankment, and overturned. The occupant, who was reportedly ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they are not releasing the identity of the victim until the next of kin has been notified.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) tweeted about the crash shortly before 4 a.m., saying that Route 220 North was closed near Route 87.

According to VDOT, the crash has been cleared and the northbound lanes have reopened on Route 220 as of 6:36 a.m. on Tuesday.
