VSP: Bassett woman dead after car overturns in Henry County Tuesday

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating a Tuesday afternoon crash in Henry County that led to the death of a woman from Bassett.

Police say they responded to the single-vehicle crash at Route 57 and Stone Drive at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

According to authorities, a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass was traveling west on Route 57 when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, and overturned.

The driver — identified by Virginia State Police as 62-year-old Rhonda K. Phillips — was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

This fatal crash is reportedly still under investigation.
