VSP: 80-year-old dies after minivan runs off the road, crashes in Pittsylvania County

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — State troopers are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Pittsylvania County that resulted in an 80-year-old woman’s death on Thursday.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash took place just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 along Blue Ridge Drive, less than a quarter of a mile south of Spring Road.

Police tell WFXR News that a 2006 Dodge Caravan was heading north on Blue Ridge Drive when it ran off the left side of the road, hit a culvert, and overturned.

The driver of the Dodge — identified by authorities as Patricia Ann Bowman of Gretna — was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

According to officials, this fatal crash is still under investigation.
