PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Danville pedestrian died at the hospital after being struck by a pickup truck’s tow mirror along a Pittsylvania County road Monday evening, according to police.

Virginia State Police say the crash occurred shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan 24 along Route 878, less than half a mile south of Route 873.

According to officials, a 2017 Ford F-250 was traveling north on Route 878 when a tow mirror on the truck hit a pedestrian, who was walking south against the northbound traffic.

Authorities say 71-year-old James Archie Rich III of Danville, was brought to Roanoke Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries from the crash. He later died at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford — identified by Virginia State Police as 26-year-old Joshua I. Carter of Axton — was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.

According to police, the investigation into this fatal crash is still ongoing at this time.
