HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Henry County is in jail facing multiple charges — including murder — in connection with the Monday afternoon homicide of a Martinsville man.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in shortly after 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25, about a person being shot at 200 Lakewood Park Drive in Martinsville.
When authorities arrived at the scene approximately five minutes later, they say they found the home’s occupant — 20-year-old Jeremiah Jerron Turner — dead inside the residence with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Officials say Turner was brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia for an autopsy to be performed.
The sheriff’s office says investigators determined 23-year-old Taylor Paige Thomas of Axton came to the home, knocked on the door, was allowed inside and greeted by Turner, and then went into a bedroom with Turner.
However, shortly afterward, authorities say several shots were fired and Thomas fled the residence.
According to an update from the sheriff’s office early on Tuesday, Jan. 26, Thomas has been charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting inside an occupied dwelling, and three misdemeanor counts of brandishing a firearm.
Authorities say Thomas turned himself in at the sheriff’s office and he is currently being held without bond in the Henry County Jail.
