HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — After a major triumph, Henry County Public Schools students now have easier access to healthy meals throughout the summer.

On March 14th, Henry County Public Schools (HCPS) received a waiver allowing off-site meals for students. Beginning June 5th, all children, and teens 18 and under, are eligible to receive free meals with no registration requirements necessary.

“This is a huge equity win for our community and means that parents don’t have to transport their children to a meals site every day, they will now be able to pick meals up for the week, if desired,” said Monica Hatchett, Equity Coordinator for HCPS.

Sites can be found throughout the community by texting “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 304-304 and typing in a zip code to find nearby summer meal sites, along with operating days and times.

The Summer Meals program is funded by the USDA and operated by school districts and local organizations. For more information on the Summer Meals Program, visit the Henry County Public Schools website.
