CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police are investigating after a head-on collision in Charlotte County Friday resulted in one death and two hospitalizations.
Virginia State Police say that state troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Morton Road — about half a mile east of Abeline Road — shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17.
According to authorities, a 2008 Jeep Wrangler was heading west on Morton Road, but as it came around a bend in the road, it crossed into the eastbound lane and hit an oncoming 2006 Mazda 5. The impact of the crash caused the Jeep to run off the right side of the road and overturn.
Officials say the driver of the Jeep — identified as 57-year-old Malinda A. Miller of Charlotte Court House — was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle, and died at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, two men in the Mazda — the driver, 57-year-old Eloy L. Bravo of Jetersville, and a passenger, 36-year-old Apolonio Santiago — were both wearing their seatbelts and were brought to the hospital with serious injuries, according to police. There is no word on their current conditions.
As of Monday, Dec. 20, Virginia State Police say this fatal crash is still under investigation.
