Sports betting set to begin at Martinsville Speedway this weekend

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Sports betting is set to hit the Martinsville Speedway this weekend, with fans able to place bets in-person as early as Saturday.

Fans will be able to use their mobile devices to place bets on those racing on the track, bringing a little bit of that Las Vegas feel to Martinsville.

Sports betting recently became legal in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Through a partnership between WynnBET, NASCAR, and the Martinsville Speedway, this opportunity was born.

“When our patrons expect what the Wynn brand means to them, that aspirational brand, when they see a WynnBET mobile experience they know that when they walk in here, everything will be best in class,” Matt Knipp, the Development Advisor at Wynn Resorts, said. “It will be an experience unlike any other operator brings to the table.”

There are WynnBET staff members to assist those placing bets at socially-distanced stations with plexiglass partitions.

“This is not a question of going to a building where there’s people and so from a mobile sports betting stand point, that was great. Now that we have people coming back to the building we’re excited to be in front of people in a very safe, precautionary manner,” Knipp explained.

The mobile unit is stationed at the entrance gate fans use to enter the arena.
